A Firewire cable of any kind won't fit into any TI-84 Plus (SE) calculator (unless you modded it).
The TI-84 Plus has two ports: an I/O port (for backwards compatibility with the TI-83 Plus) and a mini-USB port. Ideally that's the one you'll be using to connect to the computer.
Therefore you'll need a mini-USB A (Male) to regular USB Male cable, which you can get at a local electronics retailer or online. Many cell phones, PDAs, and DV camcorders come with that type of cable, and I haven't had problems using that instead of the provided one.
Before you plug in the cable though, you'll need to have the software installed. The official one is TI-Connect:
TI-Connect is known to be quite buggy, however. You could also try the third party TiLP, if TI-Connect doesn't suit you:
